Reactive pre-stain for oak wood
VOC-free water-based reactive stain for tannin-rich woods such as oak. The pretreatment reacts with natural tannins and creates authentic fuming and graying effects - more eco-friendly and significantly easier to process than traditional ammonia fuming.
Depending on the selected shade - Lye-Washed, Fumed, or Black Fumed - different aging effects are created, ranging from light fumed tones to deep black effects. The shades can be mixed with one another.
In combination with OLI-NATURA oils, particularly deep and vibrant surface appearances are achieved.
Suitable for both artisanal and industrial application (rolling, brushing, spraying, roller-coater).
Subsequent treatment with oil or wax is required.
Pre-wetting (water popping) should be avoided, as this affects the reaction in the wood.
Preparation
Sand the wood surface professionally and clean it thoroughly. The surface must be dry and free of grease and dust. The wood moisture content should be 8–12%.
- Furniture: final sanding up to a maximum of P180
- Floors: final sanding P120–150
The coarser the sanding, the more rustic the effect. The finer the sanding, the more uniform the appearance.
Application
1. Shake or stir well before use and apply undiluted.
2. Apply the reactive stain evenly in the direction of the grain using a brush, microfiber roller, or spray application. On larger surfaces, the wet stain can be evened out with a white or beige pad. Alternatively, smaller surfaces can be applied with a soaked sponge or cotton cloth and then wiped over.
3. Allow the surface to dry completely. If required, a second coat can be applied after 30–45 minutes without intermediate sanding.
4. After 6–8 hours of drying, lightly smooth raised wood fibers with an abrasive fleece or P220–280 sandpaper. Then remove dust thoroughly.
5. Finally, treat the surface with an OLI-NATURA oil or hardwax oil.
Coverage
1–2 coats at approx. 60–80 ml/m² per coat (approx. 12–16 m²/l).
Drying
Depending on the temperature and humidity, a second coat is possible after 30–45 minutes. Can be recoated with oil or hardwax oil after approx. 6–8 hours.
Tip
The intensity of the effect is significantly influenced by the tannin content of the wood, the amount applied, and the wood preparation. The wood must not be wetted before treatment, as this can wash out tannins and weaken the reaction.
Particularly suitable for brushed, textured, or rough-sawn oak surfaces. The shades Lye-Treated, Smoked, and Black Smoked can be mixed with one another.
