Oil impregnates. Wax protects. OLI NATURA® hardwax oil is the ECARF-certified oil-wax combination for almost any indoor wood project. The oil impregnates the wood from within, while the wax additionally protects the surface with a fine protective film.
Which types of wood and applications is OLI NATURA® hardwax oil suitable for?
OLI NATURA® hardwax oil is the right choice if you are looking for a classic hardwax oil that can be used for almost any indoor wood project - instead of having a different wood oil in the cupboard for every application.
Whether furniture, dining table, kitchen countertop, stairs, door, wall paneling or windowsill - the oil-wax combination is suitable for almost all types of wood and wood-based materials, including maple, beech, oak, ash, spruce and pine, as well as cork, bamboo, OSB, plywood and multiplex.
The hardwax oil is particularly suitable when light woods should only be subtly enhanced and you want an easy-to-apply, open-pore and easy-to-repair surface.

What does wood look like after applying OLI NATURA® hardwax oil?
The natural wood appearance is retained. The grain and structure are subtly emphasized, while the surface remains open-pore and tactile.
The subtle enhancement of the wood brings out particularly light types of wood harmoniously. The result is a satin-matte finish. For an even more matte appearance, the surface can be polished with a white oil pad during the wet phase.
How easy is OLI NATURA® hardwax oil to apply?
The oil-wax combination can be applied easily and evenly. One coat is usually sufficient for furniture. A second coat is recommended for stairs and heavily used countertops - without intermediate sanding.
Hardwax oil is not lacquer. Apply a thin coat - that is sufficient.
The surface is hard-wearing, dirt- and water-repellent, and easy to maintain. Scratches and signs of use can be repaired locally or simply refreshed at any time - without sanding. The oil does not crack, peel or flake.
What can you rely on with OLI NATURA® hardwax oil?
Once fully cured, the surface is safe for people, animals and plants. Tested for everyday use: ECARF-certified (allergy-friendly), tested for food contact (LFGB), suitable for children's toys and approved by building authorities.
How should OLI NATURA® hardwax oil be applied correctly?
Sand the wood surface professionally; for furniture, sand to no finer than grit 240. Thoroughly remove sanding dust. The substrate must be firm, dry, and clean, with a wood moisture content of 8–12%.
For unknown wood species or pre-treatments, testing on a sample area of the original wood is recommended.
OLI NATURA® hardwax oil is ready to use. Stir or shake well before use; do not dilute. Apply thinly and evenly with a brush, roller, or oil pad. After 15–20 minutes, completely remove excess oil and polish.
A second thin coat can be applied after 6–8 hours. For a more matte finish, polish the still-wet second coat with a white pad.
Ensure good air circulation during application and drying.
How long does OLI NATURA® hardwax oil take to dry?
- Dust-dry: approx. 1–2 hours
- Recoatable: approx. 6–8 hours
- Fully cured: approx. 5–7 days
Applying too much product, low temperatures, or high humidity will extend the drying time. Protect from water until fully cured, do not clean with a damp cloth, and use only gently.
What is the coverage per coat?
Approx. 40–50 g/m² or 20–25 m²/L. Actual coverage depends on the wood species, sanding, and absorbency.
What should be considered for oak and frequent contact with water?
For tables, windowsills, and other tannin-rich woods that frequently come into contact with water, lightly wetting the surface before oiling can help reduce water marks and tannin stains. Ideally, use a little OLI NATURA® PreOilCleaner in the water.
Exception: For OLI NATURA® Antique Reactive Stain do not wet the surface and do not clean it with PreOilCleaner.
Cleaning, storage, and safety
Clean tools immediately after use with OLI NATURA® brush cleaner, OLI NATURA® oil thinner or white spirit. Store in a cool, dry, frost-free place; unopened, it has a shelf life of at least 36 months. Close opened containers tightly and use as soon as possible.
Oil-soaked cloths, pads, or sponges can self-ignite due to heat buildup! Therefore, store them under water or moisten them after use and allow them to dry spread out outdoors before disposal.
How do you clean surfaces treated with OLI NATURA® hardwax oil?
Protect freshly oiled surfaces from water until they have fully cured.
For regular cleaning, remove dust when dry and, if necessary, wipe with a damp, not wet, cloth For heavier soiling, OLI NATURA® wood soap Avoid aggressive or abrasive cleaners.
When should an oiled wood surface be refreshed?
If water repellency decreases or the wood appears dry and dull, refreshing it is advisable. Clean the surface beforehand and allow it to dry completely.
Suitable care products include OLI NATURA® Refresher, OLI NATURA® wood care wax or OLI NATURA® hardwax oil. The care interval depends on the type of wood and the level of use.
How can scratches and signs of wear be repaired?
Scratches and areas subject to heavier wear can be lightly sanded locally and re-oiled A complete sanding of the surface is generally not necessary.
Labelling
OLI-NATURA hardwax oil is not subject to labelling requirements and is not classified as hazardous under Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP). It is neither subject to mandatory labelling nor classified as dangerous goods.
⚠ Oil-soaked cloths, pads or sponges can spontaneously ignite due to heat accumulation. After use, store them airtight in a metal container or under water. Alternatively, moisten them and leave them spread out outdoors to dry completely before disposal.
