Prepare the surface

Remove dust and loose dirt. Clean the wood surface with OLI NATURA wood soap; for heavy soiling, use OLI NATURA PreOilCleaner. Allow to dry completely.

Remove tannin stains

For intact wood surfaces

  1. Apply OLI NATURA Tannin Remover evenly, drop by drop, to the stain.
  2. Leave for 5–10 minutes.
  3. Wipe up any remaining liquid with a damp cloth.
  4. Repeat if necessary.

For damaged wood surfaces

  1. Lightly sand the affected area with a sanding sponge grit 180 in the direction of the grain.
  2. Apply Tannin Remover and Leave for 5–10 minutes.
  3. wipe up any remaining liquid with a damp cloth.
  4. Allow to dry completely – at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
  5. Smooth any raised wood fibers with grit 220 .

Follow-up treatment

Re-oil oiled surfaces with the originally used wood oil in the same color, and treat waxed surfaces with the appropriate wax. This renews the surface protection. Treated areas may appear lighter; color differences are possible.

Important to know

Shake well before use. Do not apply below +15 °C. If the surface treatment is unknown, test in an inconspicuous area. Do not use on surfaces treated with OLI NATURA Scandic-Oil, Refresher, or reactive products such as OLI NATURA Antique.

How do I remove black tannin stains from oak?

OLI NATURA Tannin Remover effectively removes black tannin stains. Apply a few drops to the stain, leave for 5–10 minutes, then wipe up with a damp cloth. Repeat if needed.

Why do black stains appear on oak?

Black stains appear when the natural tannins in oak react with moisture and, for example, metal. Typical causes include wet metal objects, flower pots, or standing water.

Can I use Tannin Remover on oiled or waxed wood?

Yes. OLI NATURA Tannin Remover is suitable for untreated, oiled, and waxed tannin-containing wood surfaces. It is not suitable for surfaces treated with certain reactive products or the OLI NATURA products explicitly excluded.

Does Tannin Remover also remove water stains from parquet?

Yes, provided they are black tannin stains. Not all water stains are caused by a tannin reaction. Deeply penetrated discoloration may require repeated treatment or light sanding.

Can I use Tannin Remover on lacquered or sealed wood?

No. OLI NATURA Tannin Remover is intended for raw, oiled, and waxed wood surfaces. It is not approved for use on lacquered or sealed surfaces.

Do I need to oil the wood again after removing the stain?

Yes, especially if the surface has been sanded or damaged. Once it is completely dry, use the wood oil originally applied, in the same color. Treat waxed surfaces with the appropriate wax to restore surface protection.

What can I do if the black stain does not disappear completely?

Repeat the treatment if needed. For deeply penetrated stains, lightly sand the affected area along the grain with 180-grit sandpaper, treat it again, and smooth it with 220-grit sandpaper once dry. Then reapply the appropriate oil or wax.

Which wood surfaces is OLI NATURA Tannin Remover not suitable for?

The product is not suitable for surfaces treated with OLI NATURA Scandic-Oil, OLI NATURA Refresher, or reactive products such as OLI NATURA Antique. If you are unsure how the surface was treated, check suitability first.
