SMOOTH. OIL. PRESERVE FOR LONGER.

Everything cutting board enthusiasts need for natural wood care: The OLI NATURA® Care Set No. 4 combines high-quality boiled linseed oil with practical accessories for smoothing, oiling and refreshing.

The sanding sponge smooths rough areas and minor signs of use. The boiled linseed oil penetrates deep into the wood, refreshes the colour and grain, and protects the surface from moisture. Pads and the oil-absorbent cloth make clean application easier. One set. For initial treatment and aftercare.

What is the OLI NATURA® Care Set No. 4 suitable for?

For cutting boards, end-grain boards, bread and serving boards, knife handles and other kitchen utensils made of absorbent wood.

The care set is suitable for the initial treatment of raw or completely sanded wooden surfaces and for the regular aftercare of kitchen wood items already treated with boiled linseed oil. Rough, pale or dry-looking surfaces regain their pleasantly smooth feel and warm, natural wood character.

What does the OLI NATURA® Care Set No. 4 contain?

  • 250 ml OLI NATURA® boiled linseed oil

  • 1 P220 sanding sponge

  • 2 white application pads

  • 1 oil-absorbent cloth

  • 1 care leaflet with instructions and cleaning tips

How is the OLI NATURA® Care Set No. 4 used?

Smooth. Oil. Wipe off. If necessary, lightly sand the clean, completely dry wood with the sanding sponge and carefully remove the dust. Then work the boiled linseed oil in sparingly and evenly with a white pad. After the penetration time, completely remove excess oil with the oil-absorbent cloth.

For aftercare, a sparing application is generally sufficient. Raw or completely sanded wood requires several thin coats, depending on the type of wood and its absorbency.

Why is boiled linseed oil suitable for caring for cutting boards?

Boiled linseed oil is one of the tried-and-tested classics of wood care. It penetrates deep into the wood fibres, enhances the colour and grain, and forms a durable, water-repellent surface. Particularly absorbent end grain benefits from the deep-acting oil treatment.

OLI NATURA® boiled linseed oil is vegan, solvent-free and suitable for wooden surfaces that come into contact with food once fully cured. The treated surface remains breathable and can easily be refreshed when needed.

All components of the set are coordinated and ready to use - for your own kitchen or as a thoughtful gift for people who want to preserve good wood for a long time

Using the OLI NATURA® Care Set No. 4: Initial treatment and subsequent care of cutting boards

1. Initial treatment of raw or sanded cutting boards

The wood must be clean, dry, professionally sanded and free of dust.

Shake the container well. Apply OLI NATURA® boiled linseed oil thinly and evenly using a pad or brush. For longitudinal grain, work in the direction of the grain. If the wood absorbs the oil more quickly in some areas, apply a little more oil there.

Allow to penetrate for 15–30 minutes. Then completely remove excess oil with the oil-absorbent cloth or absorbent kitchen paper. No shiny or sticky areas may remain.

Allow the board to dry freestanding in a well-ventilated area for 16–24 hours. Repeat the application depending on the type of wood and its absorbency until the wood is evenly saturated. Usually, two to three thin coats are required.

The surface is fully cured and suitable for food contact after approximately 21 days.

Please note: End grain absorbs significantly more oil than longitudinal grain. Therefore, several coats and a larger quantity of oil may be required.

2. Care treatment and refreshing of oiled cutting boards

Clean the cutting board thoroughly and allow it to dry completely. If necessary, smooth rough areas and minor signs of use with the sanding sponge. Then carefully remove all dust.

Shake the container well. Apply a small amount of OLI NATURA® boiled linseed oil to a white pad or lint-free cotton cloth and work it in sparingly and evenly using circular motions.

Allow to penetrate for 15–30 minutes. Then completely remove excess oil with the oil-absorbent cloth or absorbent kitchen paper. No shiny or sticky areas may remain.

Allow the board to dry freestanding in a well-ventilated area for at least 24 hours. Handle it gently during the first few days and avoid prolonged contact with water.

Safety information for oil-soaked cloths and pads

Oil-soaked rags, pads or sponges can self-ignite due to heat buildup. After use, soak them completely in water or dry them individually, spread out flat. Never leave them crumpled up and dispose of them only once they are completely dry.

How to properly clean and care for cutting boards with the OLI NATURA® Care Set No. 4

Good cutting board care doesn’t have to be complicated. A little water, careful drying, and fresh oil from time to time are enough to keep wooden cutting boards and kitchen utensils looking beautiful and protected for a long time. The key is to remove dirt promptly and re-oil the wood before it becomes dry, faded, or rough.

Cutting boards prefer quick and thorough care

After each use, clean the board with warm water, a soft sponge, and a little mild dish soap. Clean it especially thoroughly after contact with raw meat, poultry, fish, or eggs.

Briefly wipe both sides with a damp cloth, dry the board immediately, and then leave it to dry completely on its edge. This allows air to reach both sides and helps the wood retain its shape.

Please do not soak the board or put it in the dishwasher. Prolonged heat, large amounts of water, and harsh cleaners can cause the wood to swell and lead to cracks or warping.

When the wood gets thirsty again

If the wood looks dry, faded, or rough, or if water no longer reliably beads up, it is time to refresh it. How often the board should be re-oiled depends on how intensively it is used and cleaned.

Smooth, oil, and refresh

Clean the board thoroughly and leave it to dry completely. If necessary, smooth rough areas and light signs of wear with the sanding sponge, then carefully remove all dust.

Shake the OLI NATURA® boiled linseed oil well. Apply a small amount sparingly and evenly to the wood with a pad. After 15–30 minutes, completely remove excess oil with the oil-absorbing cloth. No shiny or sticky areas should remain.

Freshly treated wood needs some time to rest

Leave the board freestanding in a well-ventilated area to dry for at least 24 hours. It is then ready for use again. Please handle it gently during the first few days and avoid prolonged contact with water.

When treating raw or completely sanded wood for the first time, several thin coats are required. The surface will be fully cured after around 21 days.

Handle oil-soaked cloths safely

Boiled linseed oil cures by absorbing oxygen from the air. This generates heat, which can accumulate in crumpled cloths or pads.

After use, soak oil-soaked materials completely in water or lay them out individually and flat to dry outdoors. Dispose of them only once they are completely dry.

The product is not subject to labelling requirements. The mixture is not classified as hazardous within the meaning of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008. It must not be labelled with GHS hazard pictograms or signal words and is not classified as dangerous goods.

Safety information:

Oil-soaked cloths/pads can spontaneously ignite due to heat accumulation! Therefore, clean them immediately after use or store them under water. P102 Keep out of reach of children.

Frequently asked questions about the OLI NATURA® Care Set No. 4 for cutting boards

Which cutting boards is the care set suitable for?

The set is suitable for oiled cutting boards, end-grain boards, butcher blocks, and other kitchen utensils made of absorbent wood. Lacquered, sealed, or otherwise coated surfaces cannot be re-oiled.

What is the difference between initial treatment and maintenance care?

During initial treatment, raw or completely sanded wood is oiled for the first time. Depending on the type of wood and its absorbency, two to three thin coats are required.

Maintenance care refreshes a surface that has already been treated with boiled linseed oil and is largely saturated. One sparing coat is generally sufficient.

When should I re-oil my cutting board?

As soon as the wood looks dry, rough, or pale, or water no longer reliably beads up, it is time for a refresh. How often the board should be re-oiled depends on how intensively it is used and cleaned.

Do I need to sand the board before re-oiling?

Only if there are rough areas or noticeable signs of use. Lightly smooth these areas in the direction of the grain using the sanding sponge, then carefully remove the dust. A smooth, intact surface can be re-oiled directly after cleaning.

Do I need to re-oil both sides?

Yes. Treat the top and bottom as well as the edges as evenly as possible. This allows the wood to absorb a similar amount of moisture on all sides and helps it retain its shape.

How do I apply boiled linseed oil correctly?

Work a small amount of OLI NATURA® boiled linseed oil sparingly and evenly into the wood using a pad or lint-free cotton cloth. After 15–30 minutes, carefully remove all excess. No shiny or sticky areas may remain.

How long does the board need to dry after care?

Allow the board to dry free-standing in a well-ventilated area for at least 24 hours. It is then ready for use again. Please handle it gently during the first few days and avoid prolonged contact with water.

For an initial treatment, each coat requires 16–24 hours of drying time. The surface will be fully cured after around 21 days.

Why does the surface remain sticky?

Usually, too much boiled linseed oil was applied or the excess was not completely removed. Therefore, use the oil sparingly and polish it thoroughly after 15–30 minutes. Cold temperatures, high humidity, and insufficient ventilation can also delay drying.

Is OLI NATURA® boiled linseed oil suitable for contact with food?

Yes. After fully curing, treated wooden surfaces may come into contact with food. OLI NATURA® boiled linseed oil has been tested for this purpose by an independent testing institute in accordance with the relevant requirements of Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004.

Can I re-oil a board that was previously treated with cooking oil?

Only after thorough preparation. Cooking oils that do not dry or dry only slowly can penetrate deeply into the wood and are difficult to remove later. First, clean the board thoroughly with a strong soapy solution, rinse with clean water, and allow it to dry completely. Then sand the surface lightly and remove all dust carefully. Only once the wood is clean, grease-free, and absorbent again can it be re-oiled with boiled linseed oil.

How do I clean the cutting board during everyday use?

After each use, clean with warm water, a splash of mild dish soap, and a soft sponge. Then dry it immediately and leave it to dry upright so that air can reach both sides. Do not soak the board and never put it in the dishwasher.

Can oil-soaked cloths and pads self-ignite?

Yes. Heat is generated as the boiled linseed oil cures. In crumpled cloths or pads, it can build up and lead to spontaneous combustion.

After use, therefore, soak oil-soaked materials completely in water or leave them to dry outdoors individually and spread flat. Dispose of them only once they are completely dry. Never leave them crumpled up or put them in a tumble dryer.
