Strangers become friends
The reputation of the famous wood & epoxy resin artist Roger Jungo brought us to Switzerland in 2022. What began as a simple introduction quickly developed into a genuine friendship. The chemistry was right from the start, and it felt as though we had known each other forever. Since then, a great deal has happened: Roger is not only our Independent Sales Agent in Switzerland, but also the face of our Blacklabel collection.
A master of his craft
Roger has made a name for himself with Jungo Design through his impressive XXL wood and epoxy resin tables - both in Switzerland and around the world. As a course instructor, he is engaged by leading epoxy resin manufacturers and has already trained hundreds of people over weekends in epoxy resin casting. This led to the creation of the Jungo Design Academy.
A story of courage and love
But before he discovered his passion for wood, Roger went through difficult times. He was homeless and addicted to drugs, roaming the streets of Freiburg and Bern for many years and supporting himself with jobs in stage construction and specialized civil engineering. Thanks to his great love, Stefanie, he eventually found his true passion: designing and producing epoxy resin tables. This is how Jungo Design came about. Today, they are not only married and parents of two children, but also a successful team in their craft.
Every piece of wood tells a story
His tables are more than just pieces of furniture; they tell vivid stories, crafted from carefully selected woods from around the world that have already seen and experienced a great deal. He was particularly moved by old oak from France, riddled with bullet holes from the battles of the Second World War. “These bullet holes are witnesses to history,” he explains. “I deliberately leave these traces of history visible to preserve the memory.” In his workshop, up to 15 tables are sometimes made at the same time, each table one of a kind - each table 100% Jungo,” says Roger proudly.
The art of perfection
Working with wood and resin is no easy task. “It took years of experimentation and investments of time and money before I had perfected the technique. Working with epoxy resin is an art - humidity and temperature have to be exactly right, and there is only one specific moment for perfect application,” Roger explains.
The best materials for unique works of art
For his tables, Roger chooses only the finest woods: 800- to 1,200-year-old olive wood, burr elm, smoked sweet chestnut and walnut. The quality of the surface finish must do justice to the wood. “I found OLI-NATURA oils & waxes on Instagram. I immediately contacted the manufacturer and invited them to visit me. After an exchange, they introduced me to the perfect product: OLI NATURA Worktop-Oil, a solvent-free full-solid oil based on tung oil. It allows the wood to breathe, brings out the grain and color of the wood, and does not cloud the epoxy resin. It is my absolute favorite,” Roger explains.
More than an artist
With his many tattoos and casual clothing, Roger embodies the image of a typical artist. But he is more than that. In addition to working as a designer, he is also an entrepreneur, teacher and mentor who enjoys passing on his knowledge in workshops. “It’s not just about designing for me. I want to share my passion for craftsmanship and inspire others,” he says. “But first and foremost, I am Stefanie’s husband and the father of two wonderful children."
