Print materials and monitors cannot display true-to-life and "real" colors. The color reproduction always looks slightly different. But the wood itself also influences the color effect of a pigmented oil. This is sometimes overlooked. Here are some tips and notes on what to look out for.

THE WOOD SETS THE TONE

Of course, the wood itself matters. The resulting color of an oiled parquet floor or piece of furniture depends largely on the wood's base tone, as well as its species and condition. Because of its transparency, a color oil looks completely different on oak than on light pine or spruce. The grain and structure also remain visible and are even emphasized. This also applies to colorless oils in »Natural«, which are not pigmented. Depending on the type of oil, they deepen the wood's natural color. Professionals also refer to this effect as "accentuation" or the "permanently wet effect".

CREATING A TEST AREA WITH COLOR OILS

One of our most important tips is always this: Before treating a wood surface, a test piece should be prepared using original wood sanded in a similar way. • For an accurate impression of the color, it is best to prepare a test piece using wood sanded in the same way .
  
• The color of an oiled object depends on the wood species, the condition of the wood, the wood's base tone, the user's individual working method, and the wood sanding.
  
• The »OLI-NATURA Oils & Waxes« in the »Natural« finish are not pigmented. Nevertheless, they emphasize the grain and color of the wood. The degree of accentuation depends on the type of oil and the wood species used.
  
• The colored »OLI-NATURA Oils & Waxes« add transparent color to the wood. Their pigments preserve the wood's structural pattern and give the surface a natural color. At the same time, the UV-stable color pigments help counteract the wood's natural color change for as long as possible.
  
• The »OLI-NATURA Oils & Waxes« in the »White« finish contain white pigments that counteract accentuation. Depending on the degree of pigmentation, the wood appears lighter and shows white and limed effects. The pores are colored white and stand out on the surface.
  
• The standard colors in a product range can be mixed with one another without any problems, providing a wide variety of colors.
  
  
• Once you have chosen a color, it is difficult to remove it completely, even with the most careful sanding. This is less of a problem with light-colored wood, but with dark colors, you will always have to apply a color again.
  

• The surfaces should always be prepared carefully to achieve an optimal result. For the final sanding, we recommend a maximum grit of 180 for furniture and 150 for parquet floors.
