Everyone belongs in the trades: With the “Buntes Handwerk” initiative, various craft enthusiasts and influencers from the trades are once again making a statement at Christopher Street Day celebrations in cities across Germany this year. “Because diversity can be a company’s greatest strength,” explains Maren Kogge.
In Munich and other cities, the team hopes to show how colorful and diverse the trades can be with a colorful parade truck and a group of marchers at the Pride parades. As many participants as possible are encouraged to wear their typical workwear or traditional guild attire.
Maren Kogge, Miss Handwerk 2023, master church painter and founder of the “Buntes Handwerk” initiative, and Jule Rombey, master carpenter and Miss Handwerk 2020, are strong ambassadors for this diverse project. They are convinced that everyone should be able to find their place in the trades. “In the trades, it doesn’t matter where you come from or who you love. What matters is that you’re passionate about what you do,” says Maren.
The “Buntes Handwerk” initiative is committed not only to breaking down prejudice and promoting greater tolerance, but also to tackling the shortage of skilled workers and ensuring that people of every background and identity are welcome in the trades.
