All hands belong in the skilled trades: With the “Buntes Handwerk” initiative, various skilled-trades enthusiasts and influencers from the sector are once again sending a message at Christopher Street Day events in different cities this year. “Because diversity can be a company’s greatest strength,” explains Maren Kogge.
In Munich and other cities, the team wants to show at CSD events, with a colorful parade truck and a walking group, just how colorful and diverse the skilled trades can be. As many participants as possible are to take part in their typical workwear or traditional guild clothing.
Maren Kogge, Miss Handwerk 2023, master church painter and founder of the “Buntes Handwerk” initiative, and Jule Rombey, master carpenter and Miss Handwerk 2020, are strong ambassadors for this diverse project. They are convinced that everyone should be able to find their place in the skilled trades. “In the skilled trades, it doesn’t matter where you come from or whom you love. What matters is that you are passionate about what you do,” says Maren.
The “Buntes Handwerk” initiative is committed not only to breaking down prejudice and promoting greater tolerance, but also to combating the shortage of skilled workers and ensuring that people of every background and identity feel welcome in the skilled trades.
